![]() 7 Javier Saviola
Position:Forward Javier Saviola is a diminutive striker who is always a danger to opposing defences. His low centre of gravity, deceptive strength and fine dribbling ability means he's a real handful for even the best of rearguards. He was hailed - like many others before him - as the 'new Maradona' when he moved to Barcelona for around £15million in the summer of 2001 from River Plate. But the expectations for one so young were huge, and despite not disgracing himself at the Nou Camp he eventually became surplus to requirements. The arrivals of Ludovic Giuly, Henrik Larsson and Samuel Eto'o in the summer of 2004 meant there was no place in the squad for Saviola. And he was loaned out to French side Monaco for the whole campaign. Saviola is again out on loan this season, with Sevilla in La Liga. And despite their fine start to the campaign as a team it proved something of a nightmare for Saviola. He missed the opening of the season with a knee problem, and then was sentenced to another month of the sidelines by a torn thigh muscle in early January. That was a body blow for a team whose problem had been goalscoring. Probably won't be in Argentina's first-choice strikeforce in Germany with Crespo and Tevez more likely starters but not a bad option to have on the bench if those two fail to fire.
