One of several Australian players to play in the Premiership, Brett Emerton is at his best delivering accurate crosses from the right of midfield.

His ability to play in a variety of positions is a welcome bonus for Australia, with the Blackburn player previously having appeared at right-back and in central midfield for the Socceroos.

While the likes of Mark Viduka, Tim Cahill and Harry Kewell quickly enjoyed success in the Premiership, Emerton took time to adjust. But since the arrival of Mark Hughes, he has begun to shine in Rovers' midfield.

Feyenoord initially took Emerton to Europe from Sydney Olympic in 2000 and he impressed for both club and country.

With both Newcastle Unted and Aston Villa chasing him, Emerton chose to sign for Blackburn for £2.2 million.

He scored on his debut and played in Rovers' brief UEFA Cup campaign that season.

Emerton's short and long-range passing will be key in providing chances for the likes of Viduka and Cahill in Germany.
