Mark Bresciano became an Australian hero when he scored the equalising goal against Uruguay that took the World Cup qualifying play-off to penalties. The Socceroos won the shoot-out and booked their place in Germany.

The goalscoring midfielder plays in Serie A for Parma, and has become an important part of the Socceroos team of late. He is another versatile Aussie midfielder, capable of playing anywhere across the park.

Bresciano started out at Carlton in Australia and moved to Italian side Empoli in 1999. In 2002 Parma paid £9million for him, making him the most expensive Australian footballer ever.

He was a key part of Parma's 2004/05 UEFA Cup run which came to a halt when they lost to eventual winners CSKA Moscow in the semi-finals.

Bresciano has expressed a desire to play for a bigger club and Internazionale are thought to be watching him. The World Cup will provide the perfect showcase to display his talents to a global audience.
