A talented midfielder, Walter Centeno is a regular in the Costa Rica midfield.

In his younger days he was known as something of a hothead, and frequently found himself on the wrong side of referees.

He was also accused of laziness, but has worked hard on the defensive side of his game and, now approaching veteran status, has calmed his fiery temper.

Centeno appeared in all three games Costa Rica played in the 2002 World Cup, when they bowed out at the group stage despite beating China and holding eventual semi-finalists Turkey to a 1-1 draw.

So he will hope to go further this time in what could be his final chance to grace the world's biggest footballing stage.
