Wanchope - handful for defences.

Paulo Wanchope became Costa Rica's all-time leading scorer when he scored his 43rd international goal in the 3-0 victory over USA that sealed his side's qualification.

One of his country's few high-profile players, Wanchope became an instant cult hero on his debut in England.

After signing for Derby County, he scored a superb individual goal on his debut against Manchester United at Old Trafford way back in April 1997, and went on to score 28 times for the Rams in 79 appearances.

Although often accused of being frustratingly inconsistent, the long-legged striker moved south to West Ham in a £3.5million deal in July 1999.

Despite scoring 15 goals in 46 games for West Ham, his move to London didn't work out and he left for Manchester City where he scored a hat-trick on his home debut.

Then a move to Malaga followed in 2004 for £500,000.

Now back in his homeland, Wanchope's eight goals in CONCACAF qualifying were key to his side grabbing the third automatic qualification spot behind USA and Mexico.

Despite his size Wanchope is very skilful on the ball, but sometimes his decision making lets him down.

He remains a handful for any defence, though, even at the very top level.
