Ecuador stunned South America by qualifying for their first World Cup in 2002 finishing ahead of Brazil. It was no fluke though, as they have again qualified, beating Brazil on the way.

Veteran defender Ivan Hurtado has clocked up well over 100 caps and will be a calm head at the back.

Former Southampton striker Augustin Delgado did not impress whilst in England, but he is an idol in Ecuador and has been leading the line in the national team for many years.

They have some promising youngsters too in Christian Lara, Luis Valencia and Franklin Salas.

Salas has been nicknamed 'the wizard', and the diminutive striker has pace and skill in abundance. He has been compared favourably with Argentina's Javier Saviola.

Ecuador are a rapidly emerging nation and will be keen to prove they can cut it on the international stage.
