Position: Midfielder Toresten Frings is one of Germany's most experienced players going into the World Cup, with over 40 caps to his name. He is an asset to the German team with his versatility, being able to adapt to playing either defence or midfield. A consistent performer, Frings is recognised for his speed and ability on the ball and is renowned for quickly turning defence into attack. The utility man played every minute in Germany's last World Cup campaign in which they reached the final only to lose to Brazil. His club career begain at TSV Alemannia Aachen but he then joined Werder Bremen in 1996, where he has spent seven seasons. In 2004 Bayern Munich paid £6.4million for him and he helped them to a Bundesliga title - but he left at the end of that season amid claims that he 'did not see eye to eye' with coach Felix Magath. Now back at Bremen, Frings will sit in front of the defence at the World Cup and his endless running will take some of the workload off Michael Ballack.
