Davids - Holland's 'Pitbull'.
Edgar Davids

Position: Midfielder
Born: 13.03.73
Club: Tottenham

Though he may not be the general of the Dutch midfield anymore, Edgar Davids is still respected as one of the best of his breed around.

The dreadlocked midfield maestro combines tenacity and tough tackling with a deft touch and is a powerful player who rarely gives the ball away. He is also the only footballer allowed by FIFA to wear glasses while playing as they are used to protect his eyes from acute glaucoma.

Davids began his career with Ajax before moving to AC Milan, where he failed to settle, and onto Juventus where he spent seven superb seasons winning three Serie A titles.

After losing the 2003 Champions League final to AC Milan, Davids' star waned somewhat and his short spells at Barcelona and Inter Milan were big disappointments, leading him to be granted a free transfer in 2005.

Although some of Europe's richest clubs sought his signature it was Tottenham who pulled off a major coup when they persuaded 'The Pitbull' to join them in the English Premiership.

The often temperamental Dutchman gave Martin Jol's young squad vital experience, displaying all of his best qualities and proving Davids is ready for perhaps his last shot at a major international trophy.
