Cocu - fifth attempt at glory.
8 Phillip Cocu

Position: Midfielder
Born: 29.10.70
Club: PSV Eindhoven

Phillip Cocu is one of Holland's most dependable servants and this summer will be his fifth attempt to win a major international honour.

The versatile Dutchman has rarely missed an international since making his debut against Germany in 1996 and he was key member of the Holland team that competed at France 98 and in the previous three European Championships.

Although many experienced heads retired from the international scene after Holland's run to the semi-finals in Euro 2004, Cocu kept going and scored twice during their successful World Cup qualifying campaign.

At club level Cocu is enjoying his second spell at PSV Eindhoven and provided coach Guus Hiddink with the inspiration and experience which helped lead the Dutch giants to a domestic double in 2004/2005 as well as a run to the Champions League semi-finals.

Previously Cocu spent eight glorious years at Barcelona after joining them on a free from PSV. In his first year at the Nou Camp he helped the Catalans win the Primera Liga and swiftly became one of their most important players.

Cocu typifies versatility - capable of operating on the left or centre of midfield, at full-back, or even as a second striker. With the ball at his feet he is technically sound and possesses a lethal shot that is often rewarded with goals.
