Iran are one of the weaker sides at World Cup 2006, but they do have an attacking quartet who offer a glimmer of hope for a berth in the knockout stages.

Ali Daei is their captain and national hero up front. He holds the world record for international goals and he has come out of retirement to lead the line once more.

His partner will be Vahid Hashemian. Formerly of Bayern Munich, he now plays for Hamburg and his Bundesliga experience will be valuable.

As will Ali Karimi's, who outlasted Hashemian at Bayern Munich. He is the side's playmaker and the best player in the team.

Mehdi Mahdavikia is another who plays in Germany, for Hamburg. He will provide pace and good service from the right wing.

If Iran are to progress, the match against Mexico will be vital, but it will be a big ask to turn them over.
