Sanchez - Mexico's No 1.
1 Oswaldo Sanchez

Position: Goalkeeper
Born: 21.09.73
Club: Guadalajara

The time has finally arrived for Oswaldo Sanchez to show the world exactly why he is Mexico's No 1 this summer.

Despite being labelled as one of the finest goalkeepers in the game during his long career, the Guadalajara stopper has never been given the chance to display his abilities at the World Cup despite being a veteran of the 1998 and 2002 tournaments.

After making his full debut for Mexico against Bolivia in 1996, Sanchez had the challenge of permanently displacing the flamboyant Jorge Campos, which he failed to do until after France 98, where he was an unused understudy.

The 32-year-old must surely have thought his time had come in 2002 but despite having 30 caps to his name a late run from Oscar Perez saw him warm the bench again.

Now, however, Sanchez is at the top of his game after making the position his own and coach Ricardo Lavolope has even awarded him with the honour of sharing the captaincy with Rafael Marquez.

If Sanchez can at last showcase his talents on this global stage then he may well fulfill his lifetime dream of sealing a lucrative move to one of Europe's major leagues.
