Position: Midfielder Pavel Pardo has a calming effect on Mexico's side - a welcome attribute in a side full of passion, energy and flamboyance. In 2004, Pardo became the fifth Mexico player to reach a century of caps and has continued to be a prominent member of the current squad. Over the years Pardo has evolved from being a right-sided wing-back to the central link-up midfielder he is today - and his latest role is one which suits him more thanks to to his more composed style of play. The 29-year-old started his career back in 1993 for Mexican side Atlas, where he was virtually an ever-present before he transferred to Tecos four years later. But after two relatively unsuccessful campaigns he was snapped up by Mexico America, who he continues to play an instrumental role for. He made his international debut against France in 1996 although he had to wait until his 60th appearance before he netted his first goal and has only added three more since. Relaxed on the ball and cool under pressure, Pardo plays as if he has all the time in the world. His passing skills are also worthy of note, as is his ability to strike a powerful long-range shot.
