Cuevas - could be super-sub.
23 Nelson Cuevas

Position: Forward
Born: 10.01.80
Club: Pachuca

Despite possessing unquestionable talent, Paraguay's collection of potent strikers could restrict Nelson Cuevas to the super-sub role in Germany.

The 26-year-old shone brightly at the last World Cup, helping Paraguay qualify for the knockout phase thanks to his scintillating display against Slovenia where he netted twice including a breathtaking winner with just minutes left. Cuevas started his career at Atletico Tembetary and his impressive displays there caught the attention of River Plate who signed him in 1999. However, he found life in Argentina difficult and, after never establishing himself in the first team, was loaned out to Chinese club Shanghai in February 2003.

After a short time in the Far East he returned for a second spell with the Argentinian giants and made more of an impression. However this season he has played for Mexican side Pachuca and his goals helped them reach the InterLiga finals.

Although Cuevas has a devastating strike and quick feet while embarking on mazy runs, he only featured as a substitute in most of the Albirrojos' qualifying games.
