Like so many of Portugal's squad, Jorge Andrade learned his trade under Jose Mourinho at Porto.

And the talented centre-back has struck up a good relationship at the heart of the Portugal defence with another former Porto player in Ricardo Carvalho.

The two were hugely impressive at Euro 2004 and this relationship continued into qualification for the 2006 World Cup as Portugal cruised through conceding only five goals in 12 games.

Andrade left Porto for Deportivo in 2002 for £10million and is one of La Liga's most consistent defenders.

With a quick turn of pace and a cool head, Andrade is rarely caught out of position and makes few mistakes.

His partnership with Carvalho at the heart of the Portugal defence will be key to his side's chances in Germany.
