Ricardo saved Darius Vassell's penalty before getting up to smash home the decisive spot-kick himself and take Portugal into the semi-finals.

Ricardo has now established himself as his country's number one after battling with Vitor Baia for a number of years.

In Ricardo, Portugal possess an excellent shot-stopper, but the niggling doubt remains that his overall quality falls some way short of world class.
