Mabrouk Zaid went to the 2002 World Cup but was an unused substitute as Saudi Arabia crashed out in the group stages without collecting a single point.

However, he has since established himself as number one choice, both for his club Al Ittihad - one of the most successful teams in Asia - and at international level.

Zaid was an ever-present in the final stage of Asian qualification, conceding just one goal in six games as Saudi Arabia pipped 2002 World Cup semi-finalists South Korea to top spot in Group A.
