A hugely experienced defender, Mladen Krstajic is the leading figure in Serbia & Montenegro's 'Famous Four' - the defensive unit that conceded just one goal in qualification for Germany 2006.

In 1999, Krstajic left Partisan Belgrade for Germany and Werder Bremen and he quickly established himself as one of the Bundesliga's top defenders, his five successful years with Werder ending with the Bundesliga title and German Cup success in 2004.

That summer he moved to Schalke where he continues to build a reputation as one of Europe's premier defenders, and he will be keen to impress at the World Cup in a country where he has played so much of his football.

If Serbia & Montenegro are to progress from a very difficult group this summer, the form of the 'Famous Four' will be crucial, with Krstajic undoubtedly the key man in their miserly defence.
