Now firmly established as one of the stars of La Liga, Vicente Rodriguez has been terrorising right-backs for Valencia since he joined the club from Levante in 2000.

Despite stiff competition from Kily Gonzalez, Vicente eventually made the wide left position his own and was part of the 2001/2002 championship-winning side.

The pacy winger continued to flourish under Rafael Benitez and in 2003/2004 was one of the stars of Valencia's double-winning season.

His flair out wide and excellent crossing ability helped provide the goals that won the club La Liga and the UEFA Cup in a sensational season.

Los Che's remarkable success brought the club into the spotlight with Vicente reportedly attracting interest from Manchester United.

However, it was Benitez that moved on, taking charge of English Premiership side Liverpool.

This brought in Claudio Ranieri and along with the rest of the Valencia side Vicente, who was personally blighted by injury, struggled under the Italian.

Ranieri was sacked after just eight months in charge and since Quique Sanchez Flores' appointment, Vicente has started to regain his form.

Deemed too inexperienced for a place in the 2002 World Cup squad, Vicente played in every minute of Spain's doomed Euro 2004 campaign.

He was a regular in Luis Aragones' side during qualifying and is likely to start on the left flank for the national side in Germany.
