5 Erik Edman

Position: Defender
Born: 11.11.78
Club: Rennes

Well known to Tottenham fans after his spell at White Hart Lane, Erik Edman has established himself as Sweden's top left-back.

He joined Spurs in July 2004 but he was already well travelled by then having previously played for Helsingborg, Torino, AIK Stockholm and Heerenveen.

Edman came to be regarded as a solid performer for Spurs, and the highlight of his time in England came when he scored one of the goals of the season from 35 yards against Liverpool at Anfield.

Despite that he was sold to Rennes to make room for Korean Lee Young Pyo, who arrived from PSV in the summer of 2005.

Edman's Sweden debut came in 2001 against the Faroe Islands, and he was picked for the 2002 World Cup squad, although he did not play in the finals, before Euro 2004 saw him prove his worth with some good performances.

A solid defender who is a threat going forward, Edman's thunderous shot is also dangerous in dead-ball situations.
