![]() 20 Marcus Allback
Position: Forward Marcus Allback has fallen into a supporting role in recent years, following the emergence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He remains a fixture in the squad though, and his partnership with Henrik Larsson served Sweden well in the past. Allback began his career at Orgryte IS and after five seasons his scoring ability had caught the eye of Bari - but he struggled in Serie A. A short spell at Danish side Lyngby followed, before he returned to Orgryte in 1998. His confidence was rebuilt at his first club and he played his way into the Sweden squad in November 1999, for a friendly against South Africa. Allback finished top scorer in the Allsvenskan league that year and Heerenveen took him to Holland in 2000. He was a success in the Eredivisie and would go on to score 25 goals in 48 starts. Aston Villa took advantage of a clause in his contract to sign him on the day before the World Cup in 2002, a tournament he would play in all four of Sweden's games at. But at Villa he never quite nailed down a starting berth and he joined Hansa Rostock after appearing as a substitute in Sweden's three Euro 2004 games. Now in Copenhagen, Allback has over 50 caps and three major tournaments under his belt, and will provide experienced back-up at the World Cup. He is strong and agile in the box, has a powerful shot and a good understanding with Larsson should he get the chance.
