This is Switzerland's first finals tournament since USA 1994 and they qualified for Germany by beating Turkey in a hotly-contested two-leg play-off battle.

Switzerland have a solid team with some experienced players and they rely heavily on the playmaking talents of Hakan Yakin. He is the creative force behind the strikers in a 4-3-1-2 formation.

They have two veterans of the Euro 96 team in Johann Vogel and Raphael Wicky who will protect a defence which contains Arsenal's Phillippe Senderos.

Alexander Frei is an opportunist striker who has been in good form this season, and he will probably be paired with Johann Vonlanthen who is a good prospect and worth watching.

Switzerland have an excellent chance of reaching the second round if they can see off Togo and South Korea, but they lack enough quality to trouble any of the bigger sides.
