Position: Midfielder/Forward Johann Vonlanthen is one of Switzerland's most promising talents and many tip the attacking midfielder to make an impact at Germany 2006. The youngster has featured heavily in qualifying, scoring four goals including a devastating hat-trick in the 6-0 thrashing of the Faroe Islands and his ability to push forward from midfield is a boost for a country who are not a freescoring side and often rely too heavily on Alexander Frei. Vonlanthen shot to fame when he equalised against France at Euro 2004, becoming the youngest-ever player to score at the European Championship just four days after Wayne Rooney had broken the record, ironically against Switzerland. After impressing in domestic football for Young Boys Bern, Vonlanthen sealed a move to PSV Eindhoven, where he scored three times in his first season. First-team opportunities have been difficult to come by at PSV and this year the prodigy has been playing for NAC Breda, where he regularly finds the net. Quick and powerful, Vonlanthen's presence in the side will add an extra dimension to Switzerland's attacking force this summer.
