Adebayor - Togo's inspiration.
4 Emmanuel Adebayor

Position: Forward
Born: 26.02.84
Club: Arsenal

Striker Emmanuel Adebayor is undoubtedly the star of Togo and his inspired form in front of goal was the main reason behind the Hawks' incredible qualification for Germany 2006.

Adebayor scored crucial goals for the Togolese through their qualifying campaign including one in the decisive 3-2 win in Congo that earned them their ticket to the finals.

And after finishing top of the African scorers' chart with 10 goals the young Arsenal forward will carry the weight of the nation in the summer's showpiece.

Adebayor initially came to Metz's attention at the age of 15 and the French club handed him a debut three years later. He scored two goals in 10 games, but could not prevent his club being relegated.

The following year he really made his name in French football by hitting the net 13 times in 34 outings, ensuring Metz made a swift return to the top division, and Monaco snapped him up in time for the 2003/04 season.

After Didier Deschamps' men lost in the 2004 Champions League final it was all change, with the likes of Javier Saviola, Mohamed Kallon and Ernesto Chevanton arriving.

However the 6ft 3in Adebayor continued to hold down his place in the side, scoring nine goals in 34 games and made a move to the English Premiership with Arsenal in January this year.

A dangerous opponent for any defence with lightning pace, excellent dribbling skills and ruthlessness in front of goal, he is becoming a better player every year.

However the striker will need to carry on firing on all cylinders if 'The Hawks' are to make an impact in Germany.
