Position: Defender Giant Wrexham defender Dennis Lawrence only started playing professional football when the Welsh club spotted him playing for Defence Force, an army side from Trinidad. Lawrence signed for Wrexham in February 2001 at the age of 26 and made his debut as a centre forward, before finding his feet at centre-back. He won the Wrexham Player of the Year award for 2003/04 and has been a fixture in the national team for the past few years, forming a tight partnership with Rangers' Marvin Andrews. The best moment of his career came when he scored the 49th-minute winner against Bahrain that booked Trinidad and Tobago a place at the World Cup. The goal made him an overnight superstar and sparked a national holiday in his home country, and reportedly earned him and his team-mates £60,000 each and a plot of land each.
