Chadli - making up for lost time.
14 Adel Chadli

Position: Midfielder
Born: 16.09.76
Club: Istres

The French-born Adel Chadli made his Tunisia debut back in 1996 against Senegal, marking his first cap with a goal.

But he had to wait seven years for his next call-up, because FIFA regulations ruled him out as he had previously represented France at youth level.

His club career started at St Etienne where he broke into the team as an attacking midfielder but when he signed for Sochaux he was converted into a defensive midfielder to good effect and was instrumental in their promotion.

Shortly after his international career belatedly resumed with a glorious African Nations Cup win he signed for Istres, another French side.

More recently, Chadli scored the goal that sealed World Cup qualification for Tunisia.

They needed a draw against bitter rivals Morocco in the final match to get to Germany and were losing 2-1 in the second half, but Chadli popped up with the most important goal of his career to make up for his wilderness years.
