![]() 17 DaMarcus Beasley
Position: Midfielder Along with Eddie Johnson, DaMarcus Beasley was the USA's top scorer in qualifying with seven goals and as such represents their most likely source of inspiration in Germany. The youngest player to sign a professional contract with the MLS when he did so at the age of 16 in 1999, Beasley was originally allocated to LA Galaxy but made his name with Chicago Fire when still in his teens. The prestigious World Soccer magazine included him on their 'Top 100 Rising Stars' list in 2000 and he was soon attracting admiring glances from some of Europe's giants. His performances at the 2002 World Cup boosted his reputation still further and after being linked with clubs in England, Italy and Spain he eventually decided to move to the Eredivise with PSV Eindhoven on a four-year deal. Lightning pace has always been his primary asset but as he has matured into a more rounded footballer he has allied that with the ability to leave defenders standing and an eye for goal - as evidenced in qualifying. Usually employed either down the left flank or as the left of two attackers, Beasley is a lively little tyro who will keep even the wiliest of defences on their toes.
